Huntington ISD partners with Angelina College to offer high school students the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school.

Do You Qualify?

The student must be classified as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior at the beginning of the school year.  Students must take the TSI(academics) or WorkKeys (vocational) test and pass the appropriate sections or meet the below mentioned exemption criteria. Students must pass all EOC exams.

TSI exemption options: 

Test scores must be verified prior to students applying for admission to Angelina College. Applications can be completed online at www.angelina.edu. Concurrent forms (obtained from the counseling center) MUST be filled out carefully and returned to the high school counselor to enroll in classes.

Payment for College Courses

Huntington ISD will pay for up to 7 hours of academic or vocational college courses for Juniors and Seniors in the fall and spring semesters!  Sophomores are allowed to take US History 1301 and 1302 first & second semesters. The student is responsible for paying for the additional course(s). However, if the student fails, drops, is academically dishonest, or is removed from any course paid for by HISD, the school WILL NOT PAY for any more courses. Students must refund HISD for classes they have been removed from, failed, or dropped.  Students are always responsible for the payment of their textbooks.  While we do not pay for summer courses, students are welcome to take courses in the summer for standard credit.

Grades for College Courses

A high school student must make at least a 70 in the college course to receive high school credit. 

Huntington High School receives the final grades directly from the Angelina College instructors who teach the courses. Any course Huntington ISD has paid for will be posted on the student’s high school transcript. Courses paid for by the student will be posted on the transcript for standard credit.  However, these grades may be withheld from the transcript by request. Weighted credit is given for any course taken at Angelina College and paid for by HISD.  Angelina College course grades are calculated in Huntington High School GPA and rank.

Some Angelina College courses will substitute for required courses for graduating at Huntington High School.  These are:

• History 1301 and 1302 for US History
• English 1301 and 1302 for English 4
• Economics 2301 and 2302 for Economics
• Government 2305 and 2306 for Government
• Speech 1315 or Speech 1318 for Communication Application
• Any college-level math class for the 4th year of math
• Any college-level science for the 4th year of science

How Do I Keep Up with My Progress in College Courses?

Angelina College does not provide progress reports; students must communicate with parents about grades, assignments, etc.  Angelina College instructors are not employed by Huntington High School.
